Building Schedule and contemporary reaction:
Bauhaus building and Masters' Houses as a business.

The realisation of the Bauhaus and the Masters' Houses gave Gropius a unique chance to convert his programmatic ideas and present them to a wider public. Even on the occasion of the opening of the Bauhaus on 4th December 1926, many visitors were guided through the Masters' Houses. 60 representatives of the press alone were in Dessau for the occasion and Gropius made a great effort himself, heavily supported by his wife Ise, to intensively proselytise his intentions. The specific aesthetics of the creation, the furnishings with products from the Bauhaus workshops and also the requirements of the Bauhaus for the design of living in a modern world were clearly demonstrated in the houses lived in by Gropius and Moholy Nagy. They were almost totally fitted out with Bauhaus creations whilst Feininger or Kandinsky, for example, furnished their homes with their own furniture.
